Jennifer Smith is a self-taught hand embroidery artist residing in Cincinnati. The same attention to color, movement, and texture that she employs when designing and then maintaining gardens throughout the area, is applied to her hand-embroidery work. The texture she creates with what she calls her handful of stitches is such that it begs to be touched. She starts by wrapping fabric around a wood frame then she marks on the fabric the design she wishes to stitch: often based on gently flowing and meandering lines. The entire field is often filled with color, but at times she will leave open spaces when she feels a bit of breathing room would be appreciated. Satin Stitches and French Knots prevail in her work. Should you be looking for something a bit on the smaller side, Jennifer also creates hand-stitched pendants.
